Why It Matters

Many NGOs install wells and water filtration systems in third world countries but 40% of these systems fail and are non operational within the first three years after installation. There are many reasons for this. Most often, non-profit organizations get their funding when they show their donor audience the new work they will do, taking little care to explain the need for sustainable solutions (described as systems that are operational for over ten years, and produce income to pay for inevitable maintenance and repair).

The worldwide bottled water industry has expanded its reach to fill the need, however the price is out of reach for these billions of people. Even for the working poor, 1/3 of their daily income would need to go towards bottled water. Further, it is unlikely that any country in the developing world will adopt a policy as we enjoy in the USA like the Clean Water Act. There is no mandate on any horizon that will make it the law to bring safe drinking water to every building, home and hut in those nations. As a result, a handful of multinational corporations have the lion's share of the water market, using single-use bottles, and selling at prices that can't be afforded by the poor.

Imagine a world where single use bottles are the exception, not the rule.

A world where millions of people get their water from a sanitized, five gallon bottle that is replaced on subscription as has been common in the US for decades. Re-usable personal bottles become the everyday water provision. These bottles can also be sold by the enterprise, designed with artwork from the local creative talent, bringing everyone into a new era of sustainability, positive solutions and gainful employment for all who seek opportunity.

An Empowered Village

We will partner with local municipalities and other village/township groups and provide them with a turn-key fully operational water bottling plant. They will purchase the water from us in bulk and re-sell it to the local people in five gallon sanitized bottles at below market prices at a profit.

Local installation and maintenance teams will be trained at the SunSpring factory in Colorado and managed by regional GWF technicians.

A simple SunSpring can be up and running within a few hours, its water output exceeding the quality of the US EPA. A small plant can produce 1,000 eighteen liter bottles of purified water in a 12 hour cycle, employing six workers in two shifts. An additional six can be responsible for distribution and "water subscription" sales. Positioned as a cashless enterprise, practical opportunities even allow for employment of at-risk youth and marginalized adults, managed by entrepreneurs and strong motivators.
